It is the first time in the company\u2019s history that DreamHost has applied to operate a top-level domain as a domain registry, and .dream was the only one it applied for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DreamHost has been a domain registrar for decades, offering domain names in extensions operated by other companies. If the application is successful, DreamHost would operate .dream itself, taking responsibility for the extension and how it\u2019s run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve had \u2018dream\u2019 in our name from the beginning, so when we decided to apply for a top-level domain, .dream was the obvious choice,\u201d said Dallas Kashuba, DreamHost co-founder. \u201cI\u2019m honestly surprised .dream doesn\u2019t exist already. It\u2019s such a great TLD, and with DreamHost turning 30 next year, it felt like the right time for us to go after it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ICANN has confirmed that 1,616 applications are moving forward in the 2026 round. On October 7, Reveal Day, ICANN will publish the proposed top-level domains, who applied for them, and public portions of the applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DreamHost has not yet been approved to operate .dream.
