Let’s face it, when you think “Tech Support,” you probably think \u201clong wait times\u201d or picture someone who’s more comfortable talking to a computer than a person and fueled by endless energy drinks. Well, it\u2019s time to reboot that stereotype!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet Joseph Moya<\/strong>, guitar player and DreamHost\u2019s resident Ticket Queue Support Captain holding it down for 11 years (and counting). If you’re wondering what a Ticket Queue Support Captain does, think of him as the air traffic controller of tech support. He\u2019s the calm in the queue storm\u2014communicating between management and the team, helping solve the more challenging problems, and making sure everything\u2019s running smoothly.

The trickiest problems? Usually those involving custom code, confusing email discussion lists, or customers struggling to describe what\u2019s broken. \u201cThere\u2019s a language to tech support,\u201d Joseph explains, \u201cand not everyone speaks it.\u201d But Joseph\u2019s approach is always the same: give people the tools to help themselves and adapt to their current situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From \u201cI May Not Be The Right Fit\u201d<\/em> to \u201cI\u2019m Not Going Anywhere\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Believe it or not, Joseph almost walked away in his early years at DreamHost. Life was chaotic. \u201cI was definitely struggling\u2014a lot,\u201d he says. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to hold the team down and I felt that I was.\u201d

So what happened? The team showed up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen I realized that I had a team around me that was there for me, that kind of changed my perspective,\u201d Joseph says. \u201cThe company is also there for us, and they were helping me a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

That support wasn\u2019t just talk. Teammates and mentors pulled him aside, recommended classes (DreamHost offers its team members free Udemy courses to support their career development), provided guidance, and gave him the space to grow. He took it seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a spot opened on the Ticket Queue Support Captain\u2014he went for it full speed. \u201cI told myself, I\u2019m gonna hit the ground running because I owe it to myself and to everyone who helped me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that he did. From live chat rep to ticket queue support, then from ticket queue support to Captain, Joseph\u2019s path has been driven by community. His next goal? Specialist. After that, who knows\u2014maybe a management position. \u201cI\u2019m open,\u201d he says. \u201cIf the opportunity\u2019s there and I\u2019ve got the skills, I\u2019ll go for it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Secret Sauce? DreamHost Culture<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Joseph says what keeps him here for over a decade isn\u2019t just the job\u2014it\u2019s the people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI bought into the vision of where we’re going. I love my team. Some of them are like family now,\u201d he says. \u201cYou can\u2019t build anything great without a team that\u2019s aligned and believes in what they’re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He believes that kind of connection isn\u2019t just luck\u2014it\u2019s the foundation of why the tech support team wins awards (including the 2025 Globee Gold for Customer Excellence<\/a>\u2014no big deal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think the only way that can happen is if everyone believes in the product, believes in the company, and buys into the direction we\u2019re going. Otherwise, the cracks start to show.\u201d It\u2019s not just a job for Joseph. It\u2019s a place where he\u2019s grown\u2014personally and professionally\u2014and where he\u2019s committed to continuing that growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rock and Roll (and a Whole Lot of Laundry)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When he\u2019s not wrangling support queues, Joseph is living his best SoCal life in Brea with his wife, Tina, their daughter, Madelyn (yep, he got to name her\u2014he\u2019s pretty proud of that), and their pets: Molly, the chihuahua, and Boyfriend, the cat. They\u2019re big Universal Studios fans and try to go once a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weekends are for laundry, spontaneous adventures, and the occasional jam session with DreamHost coworkers. His musical roots run deep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy grandpa played piano,\u201d Joseph says. \u201cOn weekends at his house, I\u2019d hear him sing and play the piano. That started my interest. And then when my older brother got a guitar later on, when I was 10 or 11, I wanted to be like him, too.\u201d

Piano wasn\u2019t the only lesson Joseph learned from his grandpa. \u201cHe used to have me and my cousins move rocks around his yard every weekend\u2014literally just from one side to the other and back again,\u201d Joseph remembers. \u201cI didn\u2019t get it then, but later I realized he just wanted to keep us busy and out of trouble. That stuck with me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Communication: the Not-So-Secret Superpower<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Joseph\u2019s advice\u2014whether it\u2019s for handling a tech support ticket, navigating life, or surviving a family group chat\u2014is simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBe open. Communication is the only way you can actually get something done\u2014if you\u2019re willing to listen and set the ego aside.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
