All we need is a little joy, or as we like to say around here, a John Job <\/em>helping us solve our problems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet John Job, DreamHost\u2019s very own WordPress Support Specialist and resident optimist. Since joining DreamHost in January 2021, Job has become a shining example of what it means to bring positivity, warmth, and enthusiasm to technical support, all the way from his home in Cape Town, South Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding the Right Fit<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before joining DreamHost, Job already had prior experience in web hosting, but he sought a fresh start and new growth opportunities. He recalls his previous company wasn’t the right fit.

Enter DreamHost. It was his first time working for an international company with teammates spread worldwide. \u201cIt\u2019s the best decision I\u2019ve ever made,\u201d he said without hesitation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The support structure hooked him in early. \u201cThere\u2019s never a day where I wake up and think, \u2018I don\u2019t want to go to work,\u201d Job said. \u201cAt my past jobs, that happened often. Here, I actually look forward to it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Culture of Support<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For Job, DreamHost\u2019s collaborative environment isn\u2019t just talk, it\u2019s a daily reality. \u201cEven if I ask the same question a hundred times, my teammates and managers are patient and supportive,\u201d he said.

That spirit of openness makes all the difference. \u201cWe\u2019ve got assist channels where anyone can ask for help, and someone always responds within minutes,\u201d Job said. \u201cIt\u2019s never, \u2018Why don\u2019t you know this?\u2019 It\u2019s \u2018Let\u2019s figure it out together.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That teamwork, he said, has made DreamHost feel like more than a workplace. \u201cI\u2019ve never thought about leaving,\u201d Job admitted. \u201cEven as a contractor, I could get a job locally, but I won\u2019t. I feel comfortable here, I feel valued.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Live Chat to WordPress<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Job began his DreamHost journey on the Live Chat team, helping customers troubleshoot in real time. His natural curiosity and desire to learn quickly propelled him to a new role on the WordPress Support team.

\u201cThe learning opportunities are unbelievable,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery day is different, and there\u2019s always something new to master.\u201d

One thing he\u2019s always mastered and happens to be his favorite part of the job\u2014talking to customers. He enjoys interacting with people and helping them solve their problems. That passion for connection has made him a go-to for customers and DreamHost team members alike.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Job\u2019s also part of the Production Site project, where he helps build free, simple WordPress websites for customers. \u201cTen years ago, I never would have believed I\u2019d be building websites,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing to see how far I\u2019ve come.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Power of Positivity <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If there\u2019s one quality that defines Job, it\u2019s his unshakeable positivity. \u201cI had an old manager who told me she still remembers how I\u2019d say, \u2018It\u2019s fantastic to be alive!\u2019 every morning,\u201d he laughed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That attitude has served him well at DreamHost, especially when helping frustrated customers. \u201cPeople come to us because something\u2019s not working,\u201d he explained. \u201cIf I stay positive, it helps calm them down. It makes everything easier.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life in Cape Town<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When he\u2019s not helping customers or learning something new, Job enjoys spending time with his wife, Candice, and their two kids, Seth and Sarah-Jane. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy family is my joy,\u201d Job said proudly. \u201cAnd because I work from home, I see them more than ever.\u201d

At home, Job\u2019s also the family chef, known for whipping up homemade lasagna, curries, and pies. \u201cWe used to eat a lot of takeout,\u201d he admitted. \u201cNow, I cook almost every day. It\u2019s one of my favorite things to do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When he\u2019s off the clock, you\u2019ll likely find him soaking up outdoor activities at the beach or on a bike ride with his daughter. \u201cCape Town is perfect for outdoor life,\u201d he said. \u201cWe love hiking Table Mountain or just relaxing at the beach.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it\u2019s time to unwind at night, Job turns on the movies or television series on Netflix (currently, he\u2019s into British series such as Adolescence<\/em>). \u201cI can watch movies all day, though lately, I keep falling asleep halfway through.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Always Learning, Always Growing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Whether it\u2019s exploring new tech, trying a new recipe, or jumping into a new challenge (like this spotlight interview!), Job is all about personal and professional growth. \u201cI told myself, just take it on. That\u2019s how you learn.\u201d

If there\u2019s one lesson he hopes others take away from his story, it\u2019s this: positivity is powerful<\/em>.

\u201cI just believe in being positive,\u201d he said. \u201cAt the end of the day, that\u2019s what keeps me going\u2014helping people, learning new things, and staying thankful. It really is fantastic to be alive.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
