We Applied for .DREAM

We Applied for .DREAM

We’ve applied to run our own top-level domain (TLD): .DREAM.

ICANN, the nonprofit that coordinates the internet’s domain name system, accepted applications for new top-level domains for the first time since 2012. The application window closed on August 12, and 1,616 applications are moving forward. One of them is ours.

On October 7, ICANN will publish every applied-for extension, along with the public parts of each application. That’s Reveal Day, and we wanted you to hear about .DREAM from us first!

What it means to run a TLD

Today, we’re a domain registrar. We sell names in extensions that domain registries manage and run, like .COM or .ONLINE. If our application is approved, we would also become the registry operator for .DREAM, thus being responsible for the extension itself and how it’s run.

Why .DREAM?

It’s in our name. We only applied for one extension: .dream. We’ve spent nearly 30 years helping people put their ideas online, and .DREAM would give those ideas an address that fits.

Can I register a .DREAM domain?

Not yet. Reveal Day is one of the first steps in a long process. ICANN will finalize the list of applied-for extensions in November, followed by public input, objections and several stages of evaluation. If anyone else applied for .dream, that may also need to be resolved. Even after approval, a new extension needs time for setup and testing before anyone can register a name.

We are excited to hopefully make the .DREAM TLD a reality. We’ll be posting updates here as our .DREAM application moves through the process, including where you may be able to register a .DREAM domain in the future.
