From Aerialist to Tech Support Leader: Meet Camila Ospina!

When Camila Ospina joined DreamHost eight years ago, a tech support career wasn’t on her radar. But over the years, her journey has been unexpectedly fulfilling.

Balancing her role managing a tech support team with her passion for aerial arts (she literally flies through the air), Camila finds joy and challenge in both. As an aerialist, it challenges her strength, flexibility, and creativity through graceful movements while keeping her brain engaged. 

Not exactly your average tech support manager, right?

But that’s what makes Camila’s story so captivating. With a love for learning, a passion for helping others grow, and a creative spark that never quits, she’s been shaping her career at DreamHost for nearly a decade.

From Sales Desk to Support Squad

Camila joined DreamHost with no long-term plan, just curiosity and an open mind. Initially in sales, Camila’s technical curiosity led her to tech support within months. Her prior support experience with Google facilitated this transition and set the stage for years of growth. 

“I really didn’t have any idea what I wanted when I started,” Camila recalls. “But I’m kind of a nerd. I need to be learning all the time to stay engaged. Which is why I love DreamHost. They allow me to learn more about the technical stuff and hosting.”

Today, as Technical Support Manager I, Camila leads a team of seven, bridging communication between departments and customers. She handles escalations, team development, and makes sure crucial technical updates from teams like DevOps or TechOps reach her team. 

“I see my role as a point of contact, between people, teams, and between customers.”

The DreamHost Vibe: No Wrong Answers

DreamHost’s flexible work environment (which her pets deeply appreciate) and people-centric culture have kept Camila engaged.

“There are no wrong answers here. I can speak up, share my ideas, and I’ve had amazing managers who truly listen. And the fact I’ve made new friends and connections with people I really admire.”

She appreciates that DreamHost encourages growth and welcomes new ideas, values that have helped her develop professionally and feel confident exploring new paths.  

Creative Sparks and Career Growth

Camila is the type of person who constantly seeks new knowledge, recently exploring UX/UI design to enhance training and development within her tech support team.

“I’d love to do something that helps people get better at their work while also letting me be creative,” she explains, envisioning more visual learning tools. 

When asked where she sees herself in five years, Camila isn’t locked into a specific role or job title. Instead, she talks about continuing to evolve within tech support, potentially creating new paths that blend creativity, communication, and mentorship. 

A Full House (of Animals and Love)

Outside of work, Camila’s home is never quiet, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. At home in Colombia, Camila lives with her boyfriend Christian, three dogs, and her ten-year-old cat, Sakura. Rescued as a kitten, Sakura is considered the queen of their household.

Her elder dog is 16 and needs a lot of care, but Camila beams when talking about her. The two younger dogs were rescues she adopted during a tough time when she thought her elder dog was going to pass, and they quickly became part of the pack.

Camila and Christian also share the same passion for DIY home renovations. They’re currently remodeling part of their home into her ideal office space. 

“He loves to build and I love to design. We’re a great team. It’s been a really fun and cost-saving way to make the space feel like ours.”

Beyond wrangling support tickets or pet hair, Camila enjoys aerial acrobatics and soaking up podcasts like The Financial Feminist, which empowers women to understand and take control of their finances. 

“With everything going on in the world, I think it’s so important to learn about money. It’s something I’m really trying to focus on.”

Always Evolving

Camila’s motivation after eight years at DreamHost remains strong due to continuous learning, supportive colleagues, and the freedom for personal and professional growth.

“It’s the learning, the people, and the freedom to grow, both professionally and personally. DreamHost has helped me build a career and a life that I love.”
